Here's How to Easily Patch Tubeless Tires

Knowing how to patch a tubeless tire is essential in an emergency. No need to worry, actually patching tubeless tires is not too difficult. AutoFamily can even do it yourself. What are the steps like? You can learn how to patch tubeless tires in a simple way in the following description. Let's see together.

How to patch a tubeless tire

When a tubeless tire has a leak, the first solution that comes up is definitely “take it to a tire repairman” or “go to a tire repair shop”. In fact, you can actually fix it yourself. Here are the steps.

1. Prepare the equipment

To patch tubeless tires, you need to prepare a tire repair kit. The equipment usually contains a cleaning hook (tire hole opening), patching rubber (rubber patch), fixing hook (hook), and fix glue (special tire glue). No need to worry, this equipment is easy to find, both in automotive stores and online stores. The price is also very affordable, in the range of Rp. 20,000-Rp. 50,000.

2. Look for leak points

In order to be able to apply the method of patching tubeless tires, you must know for sure where the leak is. Knowing the puncture point on tubeless tires is relatively more difficult than tube tires. Because, when a leak occurs, tubeless tires do not immediately lose air pressure, but decrease little by little.

Even so, that does not mean it is impossible to find a leaking point on a tubeless tire. The first step is to inflate the tires to perfection, then proceed with flushing the tires using soapy water. The leak point will release bubbles when exposed to soapy water. If the dot is visible, mark it immediately.

3. Clean the tires

The next step in how to patch a tubeless tire is to clean it. Well, for this step, you will need a cleaning hook or tire hole opener. The cleaning hook is shaped like a screwdriver with a double hook at the end.

To clean a punctured tire, puncture the tire with a cleaning hook. Carefully poke, then turn the tool clockwise until the hole expands. If the hole has increased in size, remove the tool by turning it counterclockwise.

4. Start patching

Once the leak has cleared, you can now start patching. At this stage, you need three tools, namely patching rubber, fixing hook, and fix glue. First, take the rubber patch and insert the rubber into the hole in the hook. Add up to half the rubber. After that, apply glue to the rubber until evenly distributed.

If the rubber is already coated with glue, puncture the leaking point with a fixing hook that has been attached to the rubber. Press the tool until the rubber covers half of the leak point. Then, quickly pull the hook until the rubber is released from the tool. Cut the remaining rubber until neat.

5. Check again

When you're done patching, don't rush to pack up your equipment. Do a check first. The method is the same as when you search for leak points in the second point. If you still find air bubbles when re-checking, then the patching must be done again. However, if not, tubeless tires are ready to use.

Keep in mind, how to patch tubeless tires described above should only be done in times of emergency. Because, if done continuously can cause permanent damage to the crown of the tire. If the tubeless tire damage is already severe, don't hesitate to replace it at a tire repair shop.

6. Use a spare tire

In an emergency, it's a good idea to use a spare tire in addition to patching a leak. But don't let the spare tire be used continuously. Immediately take the leaking tire to a repair shop for repair. That way, the spare tire can be replaced with a tire that has been patched.

It should also be noted that using tires that have been patched many times carries a high risk. That's why you should choose the best tire product to replace the ones that have often been patched fromAuto2000 aksesoris accessories
